You see 5 children, two boy, three girls. On the left is the oldes boy, next is the oldest girl. Next is a girl, than a boy again and finally a girl. They are on the floor and they are looking to the photographer. All children are smiling.

Here, It's Not About a Children's Book ... It's About the Most Exciting Work About Johann Sebastian Bach of All Time for Folks, Age 15+

So if it is supposed to be a biography as a book, I am convinced that "dry as dust" is not the best way to get to know the Thomas Cantor. A little further down you can read what I mean by that.

Above, it is no children's book, therefore it is not a biography about the life of the super composer and pipe organ expert Johann Sebastian Bach for children. But this work is by far the most exciting book about this topic "Bach" ... in my opinion. You can not purchase it anymore in German, however, you can in English. As the Publishing House in the Bach Mission does not offer this book, this is no advertisement. You have to order it on your own. Get to the perfect place on Amazon.com here.

How My Website about the Royal Polish Court Composer Johann Sebastian Bach Came Into Being

In the beginning, it was the interest in the subject of Bach. In particular, the genealogy of this family of musicians was exciting for me. Then I had an idea. Then a plan. Finally, a lot, really a lot of reading followed. And quickly you get an idea how you could write about the same subject excitingly and – let's say – nevertheless very, very detailed and factual. But since there are already 700 biographies about Johann Sebastian Bach in the world, written in over 270 years, the world and mankind did not need another one from me. To write a biography about Bach that actually beats the new ones offered today and the historical ones that can still be bought new ... is practically impossible. And also not possible to do without a truly formidable expertise. But on the internet: There was not, yet something like my Bach portal of today. And – by the way – there was also no great (... ad start) Bach Biography for Children (... ad end).

Bach biographies. Currently, the most detailed work on Johann Sebastian Bach is still available for purchase. It is the historical biography by Philipp Spitta, in its longest version, two thick volumes. But as mentioned, it is not the most exciting biography.

Of course, I have to mention the most famous current Bach biography, written by an outspoken Bach expert and Bach scientist. It is the Harvard professor and Dr. Dr. Christoph Wolff. No question, it is the most detailed, up-to-date, modern biography you could buy. But ... but you know by now (... I hope) that I am an "entertainment fan": In fact, the professor's biography is really not my favorite ... more so. To be quite frank: I started reading it three times and I gave up three times very, very soon. I should also mention here the first historical biography by Johann Nikolaus Forkel and the highly acclaimed Bach biography by the Jungle Doctor Albert Schweitzer. What recent Bach biographies exist can be found in the "book corner" at Bach on Bach.

And the Winner Is: Klaus Eidam

The biography of Klaus Eidam is reading quite differently! It is comparatively like the mixture of a thriller and the text of a conspiracy theory. Wonderfully, this writer has taken his colleagues "for a ride", criticizes this one that he writes off, questions the expertise of another. There is not a single page of this book that is boring. And while I personally have "fought hard" to read many other books about Johann Sebastian Bach, putting one or the other aside, I was really impressed by Klaus Eidam's book.

The biography about Johann Sebastian Bach by Klaus Eidam is simply different. Four times, I have read it completely from cover to cover. In fact, his expertise is always backed up by his exciting evidence. He doesn't just claim things, he illuminates them. And that is what makes this biography so exciting.

I think that with many a topic it depends very much on whether what you read or learn about it is also fun. Or even great fun. Or whether you have to work hard to learn it. Whether you are enthusiastic about it ... or whether you find out that you don't really enjoy it. And that's exactly what my page for you here is based on. I am enthusiastic about Johann Sebastian Bach, but I am firmly convinced: I would not have been further interested in him if I had started with "any" biography.

That's why I thought I would make exactly the right suggestion on how to learn more about this musician Bach ... actually at the moment when a child or a teenager, or a young person, is interested in him for the first time. And this with precisely three "biographies", which are exactly right to read more about the composer. That is first the (... ad start) Bach Biography for Children (... ad end), you are already much too old for that at 15. Then there are the various short biographies offered by Bach on Bach. And then there is the biography as a book for teens over 15 and young adults. It is, of course, a "real" biography – for adults – but an exciting one, different from the usual, detailed ... and sometimes much too long biographies or even too specific.

So ... that's what I'm thinking.

There are around 54,000 publications on the subject of Johann Sebastian Bach. Yo Tomita, a professor at the University of Belfast in Ireland, has compiled them. And so there are also some children's books about the musician. 700 books of these 54,000 publications are Bach biographies. And if "at the beginning of interest" you catch the wrong ( ! ) book about Bach ... the interest and the fun in Johann Sebastian Bach is however quite fast over.
