The Johann Sebastian Bach Mission and Johann Sebastian Bach for Children: We Three Creative Folks ... Would Like to Introduce Ourselves

By Peter Bach Jr.

That's me. The one with the camera. My name is – like the composer Johann Sebastian – Bach. My hobby: photography. And I am also a hobby genealogist. I also like to write ... and preferably a lot. Oh yes, my first name is Peter. And "completely" my name is therefore Peter Bach Jr.! Jr. so that I can be identified from my father. In fact, his first name is also Peter. What fun over decades, when you work together and live in the same place. And if you are now interested in what my dad's hobby is, just click here.

Actually ... you would like to get directly and immediately to the store? You can do that with a click on the button.

My Profession

When I was little, my dad took me with him. On his photo trips. To Bavaria and to South Tyrol. There he photographed: Edelweiss (... in German), marmots, mountains and people as well as the customs in these regions were "his cup of tea". He came up with texts, narrated them himself and recorded them. On tape. In his recording studio. Tape was around before cassettes were cool. And cassettes were cool before CDs were known.

To this text he recorded the music of the bands there ... in Bavaria and in South Tyrol. And he has mixed this music "under his narrated texts" and then he has shown these ... "lectures" they called it at that time. In newspaper publishing houses and in adult education centers. At that time, he was the first to do something like that, and he made it his profession, in keeping with the trend among Germans at the time, which was in fact to "go on vacation on the move". I wanted to do something like that later, too. That's why I became a photographer by profession. And after that I accompanied my dad. Ten years later, the two of us, my dad and I, ended up doing something similar for companies and tourist institutions. Explaining how companies work, how to brew beer, what it's like in a mine, how a newspaper is made. Things that are complicated, explained in a simple way. Also good for children and, moreover, equally understandable for adults. That's what I've been doing for 35 years, and I'm still doing it today. All over Germany. Of course, with today's technology. No longer with slide projectors and magnetic tape. But digital. Now ... you know me a little better.

My Lifelong Pleasure in Photography

Taking photos: I am just loving it.

I am self-employed. That's nice when you don't have to ( ! ) get up in the morning and not so nice when you have to worry about who you're going to do some work for next year. But ... I do not work alone ... my wife Renate does everything that she can do better than me. We are a team ... 24/7. And that is quite a lot and starts with the fact that she likes to work a lot with her computer. I myself only write with it. With my computer. If it gets complicated, Renate helps me.

But ... I am – today in the "Bach Mission Project" – only one of us three creative people. I am the one who constantly has new ideas in my head. And I'm the one who not only likes to write, but also likes to write a lot. And I photograph with enthusiasm. As already mentioned ... above. But I always take pictures only when the weather is nice. And preferably then also a lot. Finally, I also like to "build" websites. That's why there are so many of me. About 20 alone on the subject of Johann Sebastian Bach. But only one of them is especially for children.

How Did It Start, for Me, With Bach?

In 2010 and 2011 I started to be interested in the composer Johann Sebastian Bach. So first, in the genealogy of the Bachs. I had been interested in genealogy for a long time. First, I wanted to know who Johann Sebastian's parents were, who his grandparents were, and who his great-grandparents were. And so on. Why? Because I wanted to find out if I was related to him.

Shortly after that, I also wanted to hear for the first time how music by Johann Sebastian Bach sounds. But somehow ... it didn't work ... and I didn't realize what the problem was until much later.

The further story in one short sentence? Because I thought that it could also be difficult for other people, and especially for children, to quickly find more and good information about the composer Johann Sebastian Bach, which is also presented in an exciting ( ! ) way, I simply "invented" the website Bach on Bach. And then I realized that this website is really good for adults, but not at all perfect for children. That took two whole years. Okay ... that were three sentences, not just one.

My Sister Petra-Ines

Well, that was some brain acrobatics and also difficult to decide who I want to introduce next. Whose turn it is. After me, the scribbler that I am. In the end, I decided to introduce my big sister next for two reasons. First, she is also named in the book along with the author on the title. And then, of course, I've known my sister a little longer than my wife, Renate.

Petra-Ines Kaune has been painting for a long time and the illustrations in the children's book on Johann Sebastian Bach are already her second work on a children's book. She painted the first artwork for a little story for her nieces and nephews. I regretted at the time that only very, very few people would see her cute works like this. Because the edition at that time was ... exactly only one copy.

Petra-Ines also regularly attends painting courses in which experts show and explain exactly how one or another painting technique works. And when you have understood everything – and that was new for me, too – then it's practice, practice, practice. Until you get it right.

Petra-Ines Kaune has painted hundreds of pictures so far, has organized exhibitions and also sold many pictures. At this point from me to her again a very dear and heartfelt thank you ... for the works of art and for her encouragement.

On the left, Petra-Ines Kaune, who thought up and painted the cute illustrations in the children's book. And the gentleman on the right ... you know him from above. Petra-Ines and my wife (... she will be next) said – as if from the same mouth – that I could ... in fact, write a children's book about Johann Sebastian Bach. And so I let myself be convinced.

Last, but Not Least: My Wife Renate

Renate married me over 40 years ago. And a few years after that, she also started working with me and my dad. The three of us were a real, exciting little family business for well over 20 years. Today, there are still two of us. Until the age of 83, my dad worked with us. After that, he was still active with his hobby until the age of 93 and has now passed away in the meantime.

You know the lady on the left in fact Petra-Ines Kaune from the photo above. The second lady, on the other side, is my wife Renate. I have been married to her for over 40 years, and we have been together for 42 years. And if you think that's a long time, I can only answer: And we are "together" around the clock ... privately and professionally, or as the Americans say: 24/7.
